Body Building Tips

Body-building Tip #37 – These thoughts are designed to help members of the body at Grace to encourage one another’s faith.

There are two verses where hospitality is closely associated with encouraging fellow believers. In reference to Lydia, Acts16:15 states, “And after she was baptized,…she urged us saying, ‘If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.’ And she prevailed upon us.” Also in Acts 28:14 we read about Paul’s journey to Rome, “There we found brothers and were invited to stay with them for seven days. And so we came to Rome.”

For you to ponder: In both instances believers ministered to other believers by opening up their homes. Apparently Lydia did more than simply invite Paul and Silas to stay at her house. She “urged” them and overcame what appears to be some hesitation on their part. She must have been convincing since she “prevailed” upon them. On the trip to Rome, Paul must have been truly refreshed in spirit and body by the kind brothers after his long trip and shipwreck.

Tip: Hospitality can be shown in many ways. You can invite someone to your home for a meal, cookout, or just dessert. How about getting together with someone for breakfast or just coffee. Maybe you will have the opportunity for someone to stay at your home. All efforts to encourage usually include giving something, at least your time and energy. Hospitality also involves sharing something you have like your home, food or money to buy a cup of coffee.

Challenge: Why not set aside some time every month to encourage someone by being hospitable? Choosing different folks each month, say the first weekend of the month, and sharing what you have with them will multiple your opportunities to encourage others and your effectiveness in building the body.

Body-building Tip #36 – These thoughts are designed to help members of the body at Grace to encourage one another’s faith.

Getting started: Knowing what to say to encourage someone’s faith can be a challenge.Probably one of the greatest and best resources you have for words of encouragement is God’s grace in your own life. Think about praise for His work in bringing you to Himself, answers to prayer He has given to you, and especially things He has taught you from His Word. It is never self-centered to praise God for what He has done. By doing so you give glory to Him. God’s grace in your own life provides words rich in potential to encourage someone else’s faith.

II Cor 1:3, 4 “Blessed be the God … of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” One of God’s purposes in ministering to your needs is so that you can share that ministry with others to God’s glory. Think about what God has done for you, share praise for His work with someone and you will be magnifying God’s glory as you share.

Challenge: Can you think of just one time God’s grace was evident in your life? Then you have something to share which may be used by God to build up the faith of another. Won’t you share to His glory this week?
