Body Building Tips

Body-building Tip #39 – These thoughts are designed to help members of the body at Grace to encourage one another’s faith.

School is out, summer is here and you may now have more time to show hospitality to some folks at Grace. Hospitality can include a variety of activities. You may want to invite some people to your home for a meal or cookout. Or how about just dessert? Maybe you could play an outdoor game even with two families playing together. If you prefer not to do something at your home, getting together at a restaurant for breakfast or a snack can be a great way to relax and enjoy the company of others. There are several very nice walking paths in the area, so an invitation to meet at one of those paths for a walk can result in a delightful time together.

Any act of hospitality communicates an interest in other people. Knowing that someone thought about you and would like to share your company is in itself is a source of emotional encouragement.

Challenge: Showing hospitality can result in spiritual encouragement too. First, it can give you a great opportunity to get to know some people a little better and to identify needs or concerns for which you can pray or offer help. Second, you can plan to include a “body-building” time when you get together. A time to share salvation testimonies or blessings God has given, a prayer time or discussing a worship service message or Sunday School class can help to focus on God, the Giver of growing faith. Remember the charge God has given us, “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works…” Heb. 10:24. Will you try to use hospitality to build up the body at Grace in faith?

Body-building Tip #38 – These thoughts are designed to help members of the body at Grace to encourage one another’s faith.

So you have decided that you would like to encourage someone in the faith but just aren’t sure what to say. You could ask some questions in hopes of discovering a need or challenge the other person is facing. Then you could share something of God’s grace from the Word to hopefully strengthen his or her faith. But that may be more than you would like to do at first.

Instead, consider sharing something of God’s work of grace in your own life. How is God blessing you? What answers to prayer have you received lately? Have you learned something about Him and your great salvation for which you would like to praise Him? What God is doing in your life gives you a rich and personal testimony which can strengthen the faith of others. When you share what God is doing in your life with me, I get to know God better too.

Challenge: Won’t you share a testimony of what God is doing in your life with someone this week? God will be glorified, someone will get know a little more about His grace, and you will obeying God’s command to build up one another in the faith.
