“Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures . . .” 1 Corinthians 15:1–4

What is the Gospel? The word gospel simply means “good news.” The central message of the Bible is the gospel, or good news, about the person and work of Jesus Christ. In 1 Corinthians 15:1–4, Paul provides the most succinct summary of the gospel: the man Jesus is also God, or Christ, and died on a cross in our place, paying the penalty for our sins; three days later He rose to conquer sin and death and give the gift of salvation to all who believe in Him alone for eternal life.

GOD – The Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of Man WHO HE IS – God is a Spirit, perfect in holiness, righteousness and justice. God is the sovereign King over His creation, and He rules with all of the perfections of His Character. God is one, but exists in three persons who are co-equal and co-eternal and yet distinct. "God reigns over the nations. God sits on His holy throne." - Psalm 47:8 WHAT HE DEMANDS - God requires that all men should perfectly obey His law and imitate His righteous, just and holy character. "because it is written, You Shall Be Holy, For I Am Holy." - I Peter 1:16

MAN – Created By God to Know and Serve God WHO HE IS - God created the first man, Adam, righteous. When Adam sinned, the guilt of that sin was imputed to all of man, resulting in a corrupt, sinful, fallen nature. This corrupt nature involves an entire absence of righteousness before God and an entire inclination towards evil, resulting in a life of rebellion against God. Men now love sin and hate God their creator. "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23 WHAT HE DESERVES - Because of our rebellion against God, all men are under God's wrath and subject to judgment. This judgment of eternal separation from God in Hell is the just payment for our sin and rebellion against a good and holy God. "The person who sins will die." - Ezekiel 18:20

CHRIST – The Only Savior of Mankind WHO HE IS - Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who is fully God and fully man united forever in one person. And because He did not have a human father, He therefore did not inherit a corrupt and sinful nature. As the perfect “God-Man”, Jesus Christ was sinless. "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form." - Colossians 2:9 WHAT HE DID - Christ came into the world to save sinners. As sinless man, He was able to represent sinners as One Who had perfectly obeyed all the demands of God's law. As God, Jesus Christ was able to fully satisfy the demands of God's perfect justice. He accomplished this by being punished on the cross in the place of His people as the highest expression of His love for them. As their perfect substitute, He bore the punishment from God on the cross, which they deserved, thereby enabling them to escape the wrath of God. "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us – for as it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”." - Galatians 3:13 This deliverance from God's wrath comes through faith in Christ.

FAITH – The Only Way of Salvation Faith in the resurrected Christ is the only hope for salvation. This faith is not a mere knowledge of facts, but a reliance on and a trusting in the person and work of Jesus Christ for salvation from sin. Saving faith is a gift from God that is undeserved, unearned, and unmerited. This faith not only looks to the past work of Christ on the cross for the forgiveness of our sin, but also results in a turning from our sin to a life of obedience to God.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." - Ephesians 2:8, 9 After His death on the cross, Christ rose from the dead, proof that His Father had accepted his sacrifice and that sin and death had now been conquered. He then was seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven, from where He now reigns as King, commanding all men everywhere to repent and believe in Him. “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" – Romans 10:9
