Body-building Tip #41 – These thoughts are designed to help members of the body at Grace to encourage one another’s faith.

Heb 13:18,19 “Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner.”

For you to ponder: The readers are asked to pray. They are urged to pray more earnestly. The writer wanted to return to the Hebrews and was kept from doing so against his will. And so this prayer request was sent to the believers. He asks that their efforts in prayer be doubled so that he will be restored to them “the sooner.” Sooner than what? Sooner than if they had not prayed more earnestly. The request is specific. More prayer is seen as the means to the answer. The writer believed in the power of others praying for him and in sharing requests for specific needs.

Tip: Sharing in prayer can be one of the most effective ways of encouraging one another’s faith. If you want to be a “body-builder”, ask someone today if there is something you can pray with him or her about this week. The response may reveal concerns or other needs for which God can use you to offer words of encouragement or a helping hand.

Challenge: “Is there something I can pray with you about this week?” is all you need to say. Then pray! In a week follow up. Mark it on your calendar if you think you might forget. “How has God answered prayer for…?” might be a good follow-up question. Joining with someone in prayer clearly communicates that you care and directs attention to our prayer-answering God. God can use you to meet a need and encourage someone’s faith “sooner” than if you had not prayed! What a privilege!
